River Test Distillery
The distillery approached us as they have grown exponentially over recent years and have outgrown their current premises. They wanted to create a purpose built distillery on the same site as the water extracted from an aquifer of the River Test is one of the unique ingredients in their gin, together with other ingredients grown in the fields surrounding the distillery. The Local Plan does not have a policy which allows for new businesses in the countryside and therefore through several pre-application discussions material considerations were presented to demonstrate why such a distillery including shop and masterclass should be allowed within the countryside. Planning permission was granted unanimously at planning committee as members saw the major benefits of the scheme including the support for the local rural economy and a new premises for a thriving business to continue to grow.
